1. Description:
1,3,6,8-Pyrenetetrasulfonic acid tetrasodium salt hydrate, also named Pyrene-1,3,6,8-tetrasulfonate, is a fluorescent probe and pH indicator. It fluoresces blue in acidic solutions and in acidic organelles but fluoresces green in more basic organelles. This compound is potentially useful as a coloring agent, biological stain, optical detecting reagent.
1,3,6,8-Pyrenetetrasulfonic acid tetrasodium salt hydratecan be abbreviated to PTSA which is an inert fluorescent tracer. Its fluorescence is strong, and it can detect 10PPB level of fluorescence signal. So it is widely used in the detection of circulating water. This is the world's most common used fluorescent tracer, especially in the North American market at present.
